Amusing myself

July 1, 2008

I recently found this new silly way to entertain myself. I watch gay porn, and then play songs on random and see how well it goes together. Here are some songs that worked pretty well:

Albert Chiang – Track 15: This just made the scene seem really sweet. Granted, I was playing this while there was mostly just making out and groping. It’s sunny and makes it seem like just nice, frolicksome fun with teen boys canoodling on a mountain

CocoRosie – Not for Sale: the song is whimsical and indy. It makes me feel like I’m watching some borderline ironic performance art. I feel like I should add some filters and effects onto the footage to make it more artsty fartsy.

Coldplay – Trouble: This one works surprisingly well! When the song has its shmaltzy swells, it seems to sync up with what’s going on screen. It makes it seem like these teenage boys are hella emo and angsty, which kind of works though it does add a cheesiness to the sex. Coldplay and hardcore gay porn is always a hilariously appropriate combination.

Of Montreal – She’s My Best Friend: It’s a fun and bouncy song that makes you want to bop your head, while you people giving head. ((sorry for that last line but I couldn’t resist!)

this year has been a year of being down in the dumps, being in a rut, neurotically self-absorbed and destructively self-obsessed, being wrapped up in regretting the past and fearing the future…

now i realize what it all boils down to…i’ve lost my mojo, baby. i just need to find it again.

i’ve been in a TV slump lately. usually there’s nothing i love more than the combination of wonderful shows and absolutely horrendous trash. lately, however, the magic has been missing. maybe post-strike, i stopped caring. i dunno, i have a pile of LOST episodes to watch and i have no inkling to watch them. and the rest, past favorites like ugly betty, i’m like meh. this could be blamed to the writer’s strike, where i got so used to not having regular tv, that i just don’t care anymore. however, i’ve lost my taste for trashy tv, and there’s been ample amounts of fresh material of that. the newest rock of love? after a few episodes, i just didn’t care. the new flavor of love? meh, no particular reason to make any effort to watch it (it requires a minimum effort, since all i have to do is turn on the TV to VH1 and it’s most likely airing). when i heard that the 2nd season of A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila was going to air, i felt a similar ambivalence. there could’ve been no more Tila Tequila on MTV and my life would’ve gone on the same. boy, was I wrong!!!!!! this season is just as great as ever. i happened to be watching TV while folding laundry, and flipped on to the season premiere, and within 20 seconds i was in love again. the outrageousness, the self-aware trashiness is irresistible. want evidence? on tonight’s episode, in addition to wonderful gratuitous shots of a woman crying over how she just wants to fall in love with tila, there was some marvelous editing where as Tila makes out with some dude, in the background you hear “Heaven isn’t too far away…….” from the Warrant classic, Heaven (since i, the pop culture goddess, has difficulty differentiating between Warrant and Poison, is this a crafty cross network product placement, subliminally reminding viewers to watch reruns of Rock of Love?). regardless, a shot of love with tila tequila is the ambrosia breathing life to my cold, jaded media studies nerdiness.

they’ve made a new broadway musical out of the John Waters classic, “Cry-Baby”. when i was 11 i bought cry-baby and watched it obsessively, having my first taste of what would become a life long thirst for Johnny Depp. things i love: john waters, cry-baby the film, musicals, the musical version of hairspray. wouldn’t that mean that I would have to love the new musical version of “Cry-Baby?” it’s one thing to make a musical version of a movie or play, like Little Shop of Horrors, or Hairspray, where it adding music creates a different dynamic for the story. but a new musical version of something that’s already a musical??? i’d be happy if they were taking the original songs from cry-baby and broadway-ifying them, but instead, it seems like they scrapped all of it and wrote a new set of songs. boo. 😦 the old songs were so great! it just seems like what the point? yeah, it’ll probably be fun and it’s still a different take on it, but it’s just like “what’s the point?” i think lately my seemingly limitless love of musicals are stumbling on some boundaries. i dunno……musical as a genre is something that i have always had to defend. lots of people think it’s incredibly inane and silly. now that there are broadway adaptations of legally blonde and xanadu, it’s inaneness upon inaneness, which is tough for me to say because i have an unusually high tolerance for the inane. i don’t know if i’m just being snobby or i’m glorifying some past point in musicals that seemed more original. that kind of thinking is false because forever musicals have been based on films, books, older plays, etc. so really me complaining about the lack of creativity now is me just shaking my old man cane.

Oh My God!!

Cameroon is practically in a civil war… Read This.

I was watching the latest Project Runway, where Chris and Rami had to do a showdown with their three looks to decide who gets to show at Bryant Park, but more accurately, who will still be in the running for the final price, because they both will show at Fashion Week because the show always give decoy shows to people who were auf wiedersehen’ed so people will not find out who’s kicked out before the episode airs. Chris used interesting materials in his clothes, including safety pins and human hair. A lot of people, myself included, had a bit of a gag reflex. I was talking to Jazmine and she was saying that it shouldn’t be that weird. High priced weaves are more prized when they use actual human hair. If wearing a weave with human hair on your head is ok, than what’s wrong with wearing it on a dress?

People have weird issues with hair. I remember last spring, I got my hair cut by Tory, and she put my ponytail in a little plastic baggy that I kept. Usually after I get a haircut, people always want to touch my newly short hair. However, when I asked people if they wanted to touch my pony tail in a bag, people were grossed out. What’s so different between my hair on my head versus my hair in a bag? Especially when my hair in a bag was just on my head less than 15 minutes ago. Weird…

P.S. WordPress counts today as March 1st as well. So according to this site, March 1st lasted for 48 hours. Also weird…

Happy February 29th!

March 1, 2008

Today only comes one every four years! You should celebrate by doing something you would only do once every four years!

some reading material:
An article on Leap Day birthdays

Here’s the Wikipedia article on February 29th. Apparently Saul William’s birthday is today!

Addendum: This is so fucked up! My post is listed as being March 1st! The injustice of our computer systems not recognizing February 29th. Also, does that mean that the computer will list tomorrow as being March 1st as well? Will we experience a two-day March 1st? Weird!!!

This pic I found when I happened to google image cupcake, represents the rage I feel! Also, check out Teyana Taylor’s new song: “Google Me”
